Radio Training Portal
Welcome to the Carter's Radio Training Portal. Here you will find everything you need to set up and operate your two-way radios successfully. From initial set-up to programming (and everything in between), we've got you covered! Our helpful videos will walk you through every step you need to have full confidence in your radio operation. We respectfully ask that you watch each video entirely prior to requesting direct support. However, if the need should arise, we will promptly respond to your requests. Thank you for partnering with Two Way Radio Gear! We look forward to supporting your communication needs.
Which training video do I need?
Pick the video that matches what you're trying to do. New users should start with daily operation, then move to programming and cloning only if you're changing channels or adding radios.

Common Setup Questions
Why won't my two-way radios talk to each other?
Single-channel radios like the Motorola CLS1110 and CLP1010 must all be programmed to the same frequency and the same privacy (interference) code to communicate. If you bought your radios as a set from Two Way Radio Gear, they arrive pre-programmed to match and work out of the box. If you added a radio later or reprogrammed one, use cloning to copy the settings from a working radio to the others — the Multi-Unit Charger & Cloning video shows how. Radios on different frequency bands, such as UHF versus VHF, cannot talk to each other regardless of settings.
How do I program my Motorola CLS1110 or CLP1010?
Most customers never need to program their radios, because radios purchased from Two Way Radio Gear come pre-programmed and ready to use. To change a channel or frequency on a CLP, follow the Programming the Motorola CLP Series video step by step. The fastest way to set up multiple radios identically is cloning rather than programming each one by hand.
How do I clone settings to my other radios?
Cloning copies one radio's channel, frequency, and privacy-code settings onto your other radios so the whole fleet matches exactly. Use the multi-unit charger and follow the Multi-Unit Charger & Cloning video — this is the recommended way to add a replacement radio or expand a set without reprogramming from scratch.
How do I charge my radios and care for the batteries?
Charge each new radio fully before first use and seat it firmly in the charger until the indicator confirms contact. The multi-unit charger lets you charge several radios at once, which is the easiest way to keep a fleet ready each morning. Lithium-ion batteries last longest when topped up regularly rather than fully drained, and radios can be left in the charger without harm.
What range will my radios actually get?
Real-world range depends on your building and surroundings far more than any advertised distance, which assumes open line-of-sight. The CLS1110 and CLP1010 are 1-watt on-site radios built for strong coverage across a single store, office, restaurant, church, or job site. Heavy concrete, steel, and multiple floors reduce range; for larger coverage, call us about higher-power radios or a repeater.
What is a privacy code, and does it make my conversation private?
A privacy (interference) code filters out other groups sharing your frequency so you only hear your own team, but it does not encrypt your conversation. Anyone scanning the same frequency can still hear you, so treat radio traffic as public.
