Utilities are the most coverage-driven buyer we work with. Where crews range across a wide territory, LTE push-to-talk radios on WAVE PTX reach them anywhere carrier coverage does. Where work is concentrated on a plant or yard, rugged digital portables deliver better audio in noise. Most utilities run both.

Note: these radios are not intrinsically safe. Classified hazardous locations, including Division 1 and Division 2 gas distribution work, require an intrinsically safe rated radio. Radios are not arc-flash protection, not a lockout/tagout control, and not a monitored lone-worker system.

Is every rugged radio suitable for a hazardous location?

No. Ruggedness or water resistance does not establish hazardous-location approval. Confirm the exact radio, battery, accessories, and certification required by the work site before selecting equipment.

Can different radio models work together?

Compatibility depends on the frequency band, operating mode, programming, and radio system. Local business radios and network-based WAVE PTX devices do not automatically communicate with one another. Share your current model numbers so we can review the connection before you purchase.

What information should I include in a quote request?

Include the number of simultaneous users, their roles, your work areas, shift lengths, existing radio models, and any coverage problems. For utility teams, also note the operating conditions and accessories each role needs.
